Pretty Bar

What is the Pretty Bar?

The Pretty Bar is the best way to keep your branding alive, even after a user has clicked on a Pretty Links to be taken somewhere else. It stays in focus at the top of the page so your users don't lose sight of your branding. The Pretty Bar is a form of cloaking as the user will not see the target URL in their browser's address bar. Below is an example image of the Pretty Bar. Pretty Links allows you to customize the look and feel of the Pretty Bar.

Pretty Bar Customization Options:

  • Image URL – This is the URL of the logo shown in the Pretty Bar. In the example above, the Logo is the Yellow Star. The dimensions of this image should be: 48 x 48 pixels.
  • Background Image URL – This is the URL of the background image. Pretty Links will repeat this image horizontally. The background image should be at least 65 pixels high, an 1 pixel wide.

Note: Leave this field blank to use a solid color for the background instead.
  • Background Color – If you're not using a Background Image, set this to a hexadecimal color value. You can read more about hexadecimal colors here.
  • Text Color – This will set the color of the plain text in the Pretty Bar. This should be a hexadecimal color value. The above example's plain text is “This is my git plp” and “Powered by”.
  • Link Color – This is a hexadecimal color value for the Links. The above example has four text links, they are “DEV PLP”, “Viewing: http://blairwillimas.com/”, “Share on Twitter”, and “Pretty Links”. You'll notice the Blue “Share on Twitter” link is a different color than the rest. This is because it is an unvisited link. The visited links are showing as a purple color. You can also set the color of visited links in the options.
  • Link Hover Color – This specifies what color the links should be when they are hovered over with the mouse. This is a hexadecimal color value.
  • Visited Link Color – This is the color links should appear if the user has visited them before. You'll notice three in the example image above.
  • Title Char Limit – This limits the number of characters shown in the Title. In the above example image, the Title is “DEV PLP”. Pretty Links will add a “…” to the end of the cut off text if it is over the limit you have specified.
  • Description Char Limit – This limits the number of characters shown in the Description. In the above example image, the Description is “This is my git plp”. Pretty Links will add a “…” to the end of the cut off text if it is over the limit you have specified.
  • Target URL Char Limit – This limits the number of characters shown in the Target URL. In the above example image, the Target URL is “Viewing: http://blairwilliams.com/”. Pretty Links will add a “…” to the end of the cut off text if it is over the limit you have specified.
  • Show Pretty Bar Title – Uncheck this if you want to hide the Title in the Pretty Bar. In the above example image, the Title is “DEV PLP”.
  • Show Pretty Bar Description – Uncheck this if you want to hide the Description in the Pretty Bar. In the above example image, the Description is “This is my git plp”.
  • Show Pretty Bar Share Links – Uncheck this if you want to hide the Share on Twitter link in the Pretty Bar.
  • Show Pretty Bar Target URL – Uncheck this if you want to hide the Target URL in the Pretty Bar. In the above example image, the Target URL is “Viewing: http://blairwilliams.com/”.
  • Hide Pretty Bar Attribution Link – The attribution link is a “Powered by Pretty Links” link. You can hide this if you do not want to promote Pretty Links. However, if you are a Pretty Links affiliate, this is a great place to put your affiliate URL and make a few extra bucks!
