CookieYes Integration

If you run a consent banner on your site for GDPR, CCPA, or similar privacy regulations, you need to disclose every cookie your site sets — including the ones Pretty Links uses for click tracking. The CookieYes integration handles that disclosure for you in one click.

What This Integration Does

Pretty Links sets three cookies as part of normal operation:

CookieLifetimeCategoryWhat it does
prli_visitor1 yearAnalyticsIdentifies returning visitors so click reports show unique vs. repeat clicks.
prli_click_*30 daysAnalyticsStores the click ID so multi-step funnels (like splash pages) are credited correctly.
prli_dedup_*10 secondsFunctionalPrevents the same click from being counted twice if a visitor double-taps.

The CookieYes integration registers all three of these into CookieYes’ cookie database automatically, complete with descriptions, durations, and the right categories. Your consent banner will then list them so visitors know exactly what’s running and can opt out if they choose.

Setup

  1. Install and activate the CookieYes plugin (sometimes shown as Cookie Law Info — it’s the same plugin).
  2. In your WordPress admin, go to Pretty Links > Options > Tools.
  3. Find the CookieYes card.
  4. Toggle on Register Pretty Links cookies with CookieYes.

That’s the whole setup. Pretty Links will write its three cookies into CookieYes’ database with proper metadata. Nothing else to configure on the Pretty Links side.

What Changes for Your Visitors

Once enabled:

  • The Pretty Links cookies appear in your CookieYes consent banner under Analytics (for prli_visitor and prli_click_*) and Functional (for prli_dedup_*);
  • Visitors see plain-language descriptions of what each cookie does, so they can make an informed choice;
  • If a visitor declines the Analytics category, CookieYes blocks those cookies in the browser. Pretty Links still redirects, but click tracking that depends on those cookies is suppressed for that visitor — which is exactly what consent compliance requires;
  • If a visitor accepts, everything works as normal.

Safe to Toggle Anytime

The integration is fully idempotent. That means:

  • Toggle it on and Pretty Links cookies are added cleanly to CookieYes — no duplicates, no leftovers from previous runs;
  • Toggle it off and Pretty Links cookies are removed cleanly from CookieYes’ database — your banner goes back to whatever it was before.

You can flip it on and off as many times as you like with no mess. This helps if you’re testing your consent banner setup or migrating between privacy tools.

Why This Matters

Privacy compliance under GDPR, CCPA, ePrivacy, and similar regulations is your responsibility as the site owner. Regulators expect every cookie to be disclosed in your banner, with clear descriptions and proper categories, and they expect visitors to be able to decline non-essential cookies before those cookies are set.

CookieYes handles the banner, the categorization logic, and the consent record-keeping. This integration handles the part where Pretty Links cookies need to show up in CookieYes’ database in the first place. Together they make the disclosure painless.

If you handle privacy compliance some other way (a different banner plugin, a manual cookie policy, etc.), this integration is optional — your existing setup will still work. This one removes a step if you’re already on CookieYes.

Tier Requirements

The CookieYes integration is available in Pretty Links. Any tier of CookieYes works with it.
