Two ways to set it up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"use-a-dedicated-page\"><a href=\"#use-a-dedicated-page\">Use a Dedicated Page<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Create a new WordPress page \u2014 for example, &#8220;My Links&#8221; or &#8220;Link Dashboard.&#8221; Leave the content empty. In the User Links options, set this page as the dashboard. Until you pick a page, the front-end dashboard won't render anywhere. As soon as you save a page selection, the dashboard is live for any logged-in user who can access that page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-3-set-the-url-prefix\"><a href=\"#step-3-set-the-url-prefix\">Step 3: Set the URL Prefix<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By default, user-created links use the prefix <code>u<\/code>, so a user's link looks like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>yoursite.com\/u\/their-slug<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This separates user-created links from your own admin-created links, which use whatever your normal Pretty Links prefix is (often nothing \u2014 just <code>yoursite.com\/their-slug<\/code>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can change the prefix to anything you want. Existing user links keep their old URLs to avoid breaking shared links \u2014 there's no automatic migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"why-have-a-prefix-at-all\"><a href=\"#why-have-a-prefix-at-all\">Why Have a Prefix at All?<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Namespace isolation.<\/strong> Your admin-created links and user-created links can have the same slug without colliding (<code>yoursite.com\/promo<\/code> vs <code>yoursite.com\/u\/promo<\/code>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Visual distinction.<\/strong> Anyone who sees a <code>\/u\/<\/code> link knows it came from a user, which is useful for support, analytics, and abuse handling.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can leave the default <code>u<\/code> if you don't have a strong reason to change it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-4-optional-restrict-access\"><a href=\"#step-4-optional-restrict-access\">Step 4 (Optional): Restrict Access<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">User Links itself doesn't gate the dashboard \u2014 any logged-in user can use it. User Links assumes the page is reachable by anyone who <em>sollte<\/em> see the dashboard, and the membership plugin decides who that is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-5-test-it\"><a href=\"#step-5-test-it\">Step 5: Test It<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Log out of WordPress (or open a private browsing window) and:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log in as a regular user (not your admin account).<\/li>\n<li>Visit the dashboard page.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm you see the empty-state view with a &#8220;Create your first link&#8221; button.<\/li>\n<li>Click it, fill in a target URL, and save.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm the link appears in the list.<\/li>\n<li>Click the new link's pretty URL to verify it redirects.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If everything works, you're done.
